Rogers Red World Elite: Three Cuts, Two Dates (What Changes Nov 18, 2026 and Jan 12, 2027)

The verdict: The Rogers Red World Elite is getting materially worse on November 18, 2026 — the 1.5× redemption bonus ends, trip cancellation/interruption/delay insurance disappears, and the Roam Like Home days become a narrower $75 credit in January 2027. If you hold the card, redeem banked points before November 18 and check whether your travel insurance needs a backup plan.

Who this is for: Current Rogers Red World Elite cardholders, and anyone comparing it against other no-fee-ish cash-back cards.

Your move: Redeem outstanding cash-back rewards before November 18, 2026 (no grandfathering). If you rely on the card’s travel insurance, book and charge travel before November 18 to keep current coverage, or line up a replacement.

The three cuts

Rogers Bank’s own change notice lays out three separate downgrades hitting on two dates:

  1. November 18, 2026: the 1.5× redemption bonus on eligible Rogers purchases ends — and 5% earn on Rogers purchases begins.
  2. November 18, 2026: trip cancellation, trip interruption, and trip delay coverage are removed.
  3. January 12, 2027: the five annual Roam Like Home days become a $75 annual roaming credit.

Cut 1: redemptions drop to 1¢ per point (no grandfathering)

Per Rogers Bank’s change notice, verbatim: “Effective as of November 18, 2026, all cash back rewards will be valued at a regular redemption rate of 1 point per $0.01 when you redeem for any Eligible Purchase (even if the purchase qualifies as an Eligible Rogers Purchase). The regular redemption rate will apply even if the transaction you redeem against is posted to your Account before November 18, 2026.”

That last sentence is the sting: there is no grandfathering. Points banked before November 18 still redeem at the lower rate after it. If you have a balance, redeem it before the deadline.

The offset, from the same notice: “your cash back rewards will increase to 5% on all Eligible Rogers Purchases.” Qualifying spend includes Rogers/Fido/Shaw postpaid mobile bills and products bought from rogers.com or fido.com. It does not include in-store purchases, Blue Jays tickets, or Rogers Preferred Program discounted plans. The 5% rate is subject to the card’s annual limits.

Cut 2: travel insurance removed (with one improvement)

Per the change notice, verbatim: “Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption and Trip Delay Coverage is no longer included with your Rogers Bank credit card,” effective November 18, 2026. The new Certificate of Insurance (effective the same date) lists only Purchase Protection & Extended Warranty, Emergency Medical, and Car Rental coverage.

Two silver linings, confirmed verbatim from the documents:

  • Grandfathering for booked travel: “If you book and charge travel arrangements to your credit card before November 18, 2026, and are travelling after this date, all your eligible claims resulting from your trip will be reviewed based on your current coverage.” Trips already booked keep the old coverage.
  • Medical coverage improves for travellers 64 and under: emergency medical extends from 10 to 15 days per trip (ages 65–74 unchanged at 3 days), and pre-existing condition stability periods shorten — six months → 90 days for 64 and under; one year → 150 days for 65–74.

If you counted on this card as your travel insurance, either book before November 18 or find a replacement card with trip cancellation coverage.

Cut 3: Roam Like Home days → $75 credit (January 2027)

Per the change notice, verbatim: “Effective as of January 12, 2027, you will no longer receive the annual benefit of 5 Roam Like Home days. Instead, you will receive an annual credit in the amount of $75.00 that can be redeemed against the purchase of any eligible Rogers roaming service.”

Details: unused Roam Like Home days are removed January 12, 2027; the Roam Like Home benefit runs until January 11, 2027. The $75 credit resets yearly on the account (or product-switch) anniversary and does not carry over. Eligible services must be billed to a postpaid Rogers mobile account paid with the card, or purchased from Rogers with the card. Note: the credit is not automatic — you must submit a reimbursement request within 90 days of paying the roaming charge (via online banking or the Rogers Bank app), and the approved credit lands on your card statement, which can take a few statement cycles.

Where the card stands now

The card’s pitch was always “one card for Rogers customers” — 5% earn on Rogers bills softens the redemption cut for heavy Rogers spenders, but the insurance removal is a straight loss with no offset. If travel insurance mattered to you, the card no longer covers it; compare against the current cash-back field in The Best Cash-Back Credit Cards in Canada (2026), Ranked by the Math.
